The AK1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB1218) is specifically designed for research involving AK1, a key enzyme involved in the adenylate kinase pathway. This antibody, generated in rabbits, shows high reactivity with human samples and is validated for use in various applications including Western blotting. By binding to the AK1 protein, this antibody enables researchers to detect and analyze AK1 levels in different cell types, making it a valuable tool for studies in biochemistry and cellular metabolism.
AK1, also known as ADK1, plays a crucial role in maintaining cellular energy balance by mediating the transfer of phosphate groups between adenine nucleotides. Dysregulation of AK1 activity has been linked to various metabolic disorders and diseases, highlighting its importance in cellular function. By investigating the role of AK1, researchers can gain insights into metabolic pathways and potentially identify novel therapeutic targets for conditions related to energy metabolism.

This gene encodes an adenylate kinase enzyme involved in energy metabolism and homeostasis of cellular adenine nucleotide ratios in different intracellular compartments. This gene is highly expressed in skeletal muscle, brain and erythrocytes. Certain mutations in this gene resulting in a functionally inadequate enzyme are associated with a rare genetic disorder causing nonspherocytic hemolytic anemia. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. This gene shares readthrough transcripts with the upstream ST6GALNAC6 gene.
