The ABO Polyclonal Antibody (CAB1586) is a high-quality antibody designed for research focused on the ABO blood group system, an important aspect of blood transfusion and tissue transplantation. This antibody, generated in rabbits, exhibits strong reactivity with human samples and has been validated for use in various experimental applications such as Western blotting. The ABO antigen system is a critical determinant of blood compatibility, with the presence or absence of specific antigens (A and B) influencing transfusion reactions and organ transplant outcomes.
By targeting the ABO antigens, researchers can investigate the molecular basis of blood group determination and its implications for clinical practice. This antibody facilitates the detection and analysis of ABO antigens in different cell types and tissues, making it a valuable tool for studies in transfusion medicine, immunology, and transplantation research. Understanding the role of ABO antigens in immune responses and disease susceptibility is essential for advancing personalized medicine and improving patient care.

This gene encodes proteins related to the first discovered blood group system, ABO. Variation in the ABO gene (chromosome 9q34.2) is the basis of the ABO blood group, thus the presence of an allele determines the blood group in an individual. The 'O' blood group is caused by a deletion of guanine-258 near the N-terminus of the protein which results in a frameshift and translation of an almost entirely different protein. Individuals with the A, B, and AB alleles express glycosyltransferase activities that convert the H antigen into the A or B antigen. Other minor alleles have been found for this gene.
