Human MERTK/Mer Recombinant Protein

The proto-oncogene tyrosine-protein kinase MER (MERTK) is a member of the MER/AXL/TYRO3 receptor kinase family and encodes a transmembrane protein with two fibronectin type-III domains, two Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains; and one tyrosine kinase domain. MERTK is localized in membrane and is no expressed in normal B- and T-lymphocytes but is expressed in numerous neoplastic B- and T-cell lines. HGPRT is highly expressed in the testis, ovary, prostate, lung, and kidney. It is lower expressed in the spleen; small intestine; colon; and liver. MERTK controls many physiological processes, including cell survival, migration, differentiation, and phagocytosis of apoptotic cells (efferocytosis). Ligand binding at the cell surface induces MERTK autophosphorylation on its intracellular domain, which provides docking sites for downstream signaling molecules. MERTK signaling is essential for various functions including macrophage removal of apoptotic cells, platelet aggregation, cytoskeleton stabilization and engulfment. MERTK is required for the attenuation of Toll-like receptor (TLR)-mediated innate immune response via the activation of STAT1, which promotes the production of SOCS1 and SOCS3, two cytokine suppressors. Retinitis pigmentosa type 38 is caused by MERTK mutations. Human MERTK/Mer Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
