The MRPL13 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB14122) is a valuable tool for research involving MRPL13, a mitochondrial ribosomal protein responsible for protein synthesis within the mitochondria. This antibody, raised in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. Its specificity allows for accurate detection and analysis of MRPL13 in various cell types, making it ideal for studies in mitochondrial biology and related fields.MRPL13 is a vital component of the mitochondrial ribosome, essential for the translation of mitochondrial DNA-encoded proteins involved in oxidative phosphorylation and other cellular processes.
Dysregulation of MRPL13 has been linked to mitochondrial dysfunction, which is implicated in a variety of diseases including neurodegenerative disorders, metabolic disorders, and cancer. Research on MRPL13 can provide valuable insights into mitochondrial function and its role in disease pathogenesis, paving the way for new therapies targeting these pathways.

Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and help in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit. They have an estimated 75% protein to rRNA composition compared to prokaryotic ribosomes, where this ratio is reversed. Another difference between mammalian mitoribosomes and prokaryotic ribosomes is that the latter contain a 5S rRNA. Among different species, the proteins comprising the mitoribosome differ greatly in sequence, and sometimes in biochemical properties, which prevents easy recognition by sequence homology. This gene encodes a 39S subunit protein.
