High Mobility Group Nucleosomal Binding Domain 3 (HMGN3), binds thyroidhormone receptor beta, however it occurs only in the presence of thyroidhormone. Thyroid hormone receptors are hormone-dependent transcription factorswhich regulate expression of a variety of particular target genes. HMGN3 is considered to reduce the compactnessof the chromatin fiber in nucleosomes, in that way enhancing transcription fromchromatin templates.
HMGN3 Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single,non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 100 amino acids (1-77 a.a) andhaving a molecular mass of 10.8 kDa.HMGN3 is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus& purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | HMGN3: Binds to nucleosomes, regulating chromatin structure and consequently, chromatin-dependent processes such as transcription, DNA replication and DNA repair. Affects both insulin and glucagon levels and modulates the expression of pancreatic genes involved in insulin secretion. Regulates the expression of the glucose transporter SLC2A2 by binding specifically to its promoter region and recruiting PDX1 and additional transcription factors. Regulates the expression of SLC6A9, a glycine transporter which regulates the glycine concentration in synaptic junctions in the central nervous system, by binding to its transcription start site. May play a role in ocular development and astrocyte function. Belongs to the HMGN family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |

NCBI Summary: | The protein encoded by this gene binds thyroid hormone receptor beta in the presence of thyroid hormone. The encoded protein, a member of the HMGN protein family, is thought to reduce the compactness of the chromatin fiber in nucleosomes, thereby enhancing transcription from chromatin templates. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. There is a related pseudogene on chromosome 1. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2016] |
