The UGT1A6 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB17166) is a vital tool for researchers studying UDP glucuronosyltransferase 1 family, polypeptide A6 (UGT1A6), an enzyme involved in drug metabolism and detoxification processes in the liver. Raised in rabbits, this antibody demonstrates high reactivity with human samples and is validated for use in Western blot applications. By binding to UGT1A6, this antibody facilitates the detection and analysis of the enzyme in various cell types, making it a crucial component for investigations in pharmacology and toxicology research.
UGT1A6 is a key player in the phase II metabolism of xenobiotics, drugs, and endogenous compounds, making it a critical determinant of drug efficacy and toxicity. Understanding the expression and activity of UGT1A6 is essential for predicting drug interactions, individual variability in drug response, and susceptibility to drug-induced liver injury. By investigating UGT1A6, researchers can improve drug safety and efficacy, leading to advancements in personalized medicine and precision pharmacotherapy.

This gene encodes a UDP-glucuronosyltransferase, an enzyme of the glucuronidation pathway that transforms small lipophilic molecules, such as steroids, bilirubin, hormones, and drugs, into water-soluble, excretable metabolites. This gene is part of a complex locus that encodes several UDP-glucuronosyltransferases. The locus includes thirteen unique alternate first exons followed by four common exons. Four of the alternate first exons are considered pseudogenes. Each of the remaining nine 5' exons may be spliced to the four common exons, resulting in nine proteins with different N-termini and identical C-termini. Each first exon encodes the substrate binding site, and is regulated by its own promoter. The enzyme encoded by this gene is active on phenolic and planar compounds. Alternative splicing in the unique 5' end of this gene results in two transcript variants.
