The TXNRD2 Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody (CAB8884) is a high-quality antibody designed for research involving TXNRD2, a protein known for its role in antioxidant defense and redox regulation. This antibody, raised in rabbits, is highly specific and reactive with human samples, making it a reliable tool for Western blot applications.TXNRD2, also known as thioredoxin reductase 2, is a key enzyme involved in maintaining cellular redox balance and protecting cells from oxidative damage. Its dysregulation has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and cardiovascular diseases.
By targeting TXNRD2, researchers can gain valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying these conditions and potentially identify new therapeutic strategies. This monoclonal antibody binds specifically to TXNRD2, allowing for accurate detection and quantification of the protein in different cell types and tissues. Its high sensitivity and specificity make it an ideal tool for studies in oxidative stress, cancer biology, and mitochondrial function. Researchers can rely on the CAB8884 antibody to further their understanding of TXNRD2 and its implications in health and disease.
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the pyridine nucleotide-disulfide oxidoreductase family, and is a member of the thioredoxin (Trx) system. Three thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) isozymes are found in mammals. TrxRs are selenocysteine-containing flavoenzymes, which reduce thioredoxins, as well as other substrates, and play a key role in redox homoeostasis. This gene encodes a mitochondrial form important for scavenging reactive oxygen species in mitochondria. It functions as a homodimer containing FAD, and selenocysteine (Sec) at the active site. Sec is encoded by UGA codon that normally signals translation termination. The 3' UTRs of selenoprotein mRNAs contain a conserved stem-loop structure, the Sec insertion sequence (SECIS) element, which is necessary for the recognition of UGA as a Sec codon rather than as a stop signal. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms, including a few localized in the cytosol and some lacking the C-terminal Sec residue, have been found for this gene.
