Description
TTR Rabbit Polyclonal Antibody (CAB3186)
The Transthyretin Polyclonal Antibody (CAB3186) is a valuable tool for researchers studying transthyretin, a protein mainly produced by the liver and involved in thyroid hormone and retinol (vitamin A) transport. This antibody, produced in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and is validated for use in various applications including Western blot and immunohistochemistry.Transthyretin is known for its role in binding and transporting thyroid hormones and retinol throughout the body, making it essential for proper metabolic function and vitamin A homeostasis. Dysregulation of transthyretin has been linked to disorders such as familial amyloid polyneuropathy and senile systemic amyloidosis, highlighting its importance in health and disease.
Researchers utilizing the Transthyretin Polyclonal Antibody can accurately detect and analyze transthyretin expression in different cell types and tissues, providing valuable insights into its molecular function and potential implications in various diseases. This antibody is a valuable tool for studies in the fields of endocrinology, metabolism, and neurodegenerative disorders, offering a deeper understanding of transthyretin biology and its impact on human health.

This gene encodes one of the three prealbumins, which include alpha-1-antitrypsin, transthyretin and orosomucoid. The encoded protein, transthyretin, is a homo-tetrameric carrier protein, which transports thyroid hormones in the plasma and cerebrospinal fluid. It is also involved in the transport of retinol (vitamin A) in the plasma by associating with retinol-binding protein. The protein may also be involved in other intracellular processes including proteolysis, nerve regeneration, autophagy and glucose homeostasis. Mutations in this gene are associated with amyloid deposition, predominantly affecting peripheral nerves or the heart, while a small percentage of the gene mutations are non-amyloidogenic. The mutations are implicated in the etiology of several diseases, including amyloidotic polyneuropathy, euthyroid hyperthyroxinaemia, amyloidotic vitreous opacities, cardiomyopathy, oculoleptomeningeal amyloidosis, meningocerebrovascular amyloidosis and carpal tunnel syndrome.
