Lab Notes with Jason Kang
Jason Kang used a Custom Multiplex as part of his research. Jason was kind enough to share his insights on his research with us, including the challenges faced and advice for fellow scientists in the field.

Q: Can you summarize the goal of your research?
Our study investigates how plant-derived and animal-derived proteins differentially affect gut microbiome composition, intestinal barrier integrity, and systemic health in ageing.
Q: What was the biggest challenge in this project?
The primary hurdle is the lack of standard biomarkers for aging related inflammation.

Q: What was the most surprising or exciting outcome of your research?
In aged mice, aniaml protein consumption led to weight gain, impaired glucose metabolism, systemic inflammation, and gut barrier dysfunction, whereas plant protein demonstrated protective effects against these age-related health challenges.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to another researcher working in this area?
Create your customized immunoassay panel using a highly sensitive method.
