The ST3GAL1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB11616) is a valuable tool for researchers studying ST3GAL1, a key enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of sialylated glycoconjugates. This antibody, specifically raised in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and has been extensively validated for use in Western blot applications. By targeting the ST3GAL1 protein, this antibody enables precise detection and analysis in various cell types, making it an essential component for projects in glycobiology and cancer research.
ST3GAL1, also known as ST3 beta-galactoside alpha-2,3-sialyltransferase 1, serves a crucial role in the modification of glycoproteins and glycolipids, influencing cell adhesion, signaling, and immune response. Dysregulation of ST3GAL1 has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and inflammatory conditions. Understanding the function and regulation of ST3GAL1 is essential for developing targeted therapies and diagnostic tools for these pathologies.

The protein encoded by this gene is a type II membrane protein that catalyzes the transfer of sialic acid from CMP-sialic acid to galactose-containing substrates. The encoded protein is normally found in the Golgi but can be proteolytically processed to a soluble form. Correct glycosylation of the encoded protein may be critical to its sialyltransferase activity. This protein, which is a member of glycosyltransferase family 29, can use the same acceptor substrates as does sialyltransferase 4B. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. Other transcript variants may exist, but have not been fully characterized yet.
