The SPRN Polyclonal Antibody (PAC018390) is a valuable tool for researchers studying the prion protein SPRN. This antibody, produced in rabbits, is highly reactive with human samples and is suitable for Western blot applications. By specifically binding to the SPRN protein, this antibody enables the detection and analysis of SPRN in various cell types, making it ideal for studies in neurobiology and neurodegenerative diseases.SPRN, also known as Shadoo, is a key player in prion biology and is involved in the pathogenesis of prion diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
Understanding the function of SPRN is crucial for unraveling the mechanisms underlying these devastating neurodegenerative disorders. The SPRN Polyclonal Antibody provides researchers with a powerful tool to further investigate the role of SPRN in health and disease, ultimately leading to new insights and potential therapeutic strategies.

Background:
SPRN (shadow of prion protein), also known as SHO or SHADOO, is a 151 amino acid, cytoplasmic protein that is mainly expressed in brain. SPRN is considered a prion-like protein that has PrP(C)-like neuroprotective activity and may act as a modulator for the biological actions of normal and abnormal PrP. In humans, mutations in the gene encoding SPRN may be associated with variant and sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, a degenerative neurological disorder that is incurable and invariably fatal.
Synonyms:
shadow of prion protein homolog (zebrafish)
UniProt Protein Function:
SPRN: Prion-like protein that has PrP(C)-like neuroprotective activity. May act as a modulator for the biological actions of normal and abnormal PrP. Belongs to the SPRN family.Protein type: Membrane protein, GPI anchorChromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 10q26.3
