The SPG20 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB17653) is specifically designed for researchers studying SPG20, a protein involved in regulating intracellular trafficking and vesicle formation. This antibody, produced in rabbits, has high reactivity with human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By targeting the SPG20 protein, this antibody enables accurate detection and analysis in various cell types, making it an essential tool for studies in cell biology and neurodegenerative diseases.
SPG20, also known as Troyer syndrome protein, plays a crucial role in maintaining cellular homeostasis by controlling the transport of proteins within cells. Dysregulation of SPG20 has been linked to neurological disorders such as hereditary spastic paraplegia and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Investigating the function of SPG20 is imperative for understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying these conditions and developing potential therapies to target them.

This gene encodes a protein containing a MIT (Microtubule Interacting and Trafficking molecule) domain, and is implicated in regulating endosomal trafficking and mitochondria function. The protein localizes to mitochondria and partially co-localizes with microtubules. Stimulation with epidermal growth factor (EGF) results in protein translocation to the plasma membrane, and the protein functions in the degradation and intracellular trafficking of EGF receptor. Multiple alternatively spliced variants, encoding the same protein, have been identified. Mutations associated with this gene cause autosomal recessive spastic paraplegia 20 (Troyer syndrome).
