The Selenom Polyclonal Antibody (CAB16660) is a valuable tool for research involving Selenom, a protein essential for selenium metabolism and antioxidant defense in the body. This antibody, generated in rabbits, exhibits high specificity and sensitivity for detecting Selenom in human samples, making it ideal for use in Western blot assays.Selenom, a selenoprotein, plays a crucial role in maintaining proper cellular function through its antioxidant properties and involvement in selenium-dependent pathways. Studying Selenom can provide insights into the mechanisms of selenium metabolism, oxidative stress regulation, and potential therapeutic strategies for conditions related to selenium deficiency.
With its ability to specifically recognize and bind to Selenom, the CAB16660 antibody enables researchers to investigate the expression levels and localization of Selenom in various cell types and tissues. By understanding the function and regulation of Selenom, researchers can advance knowledge in areas such as nutrition, metabolism, and disease pathogenesis related to selenium biology.

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the selenoprotein M/SEP15 family. The exact function of this protein is not known. It is localized in the perinuclear region, is highly expressed in the brain, and may be involved in neurodegenerative disorders. Transgenic mice with targeted deletion of this gene exhibit increased weight gain, suggesting a role for this gene in the regulation of body weight and energy metabolism. This protein is a selenoprotein, containing the rare amino acid selenocysteine (Sec). Sec is encoded by the UGA codon, which normally signals translation termination. The 3' UTRs of selenoprotein mRNAs contain a conserved stem-loop structure, designated the Sec insertion sequence (SECIS) element, that is necessary for the recognition of UGA as a Sec codon, rather than as a stop signal.
