Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) is a member of the neurotrophin family. BDNF binds with high affinity to the TrkB kinase receptor, in addition to other structurally related neurotrophic factors like NGF; NT-3 and NT-4. It binds to the LNGFR (for low-affinity nerve growth factor receptor, also known as p75). BDNF promotes the survival; growth and differentiation of neurons. In the central nervous system (CNS), it serves as a major regulator of synaptic transmission and plasticity. In Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, for example, the levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) are altered. Human/Mouse/Rat BDNF Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
