Activin and inhibin are two protein complexes that have nearly opposite biological effects. TGF-β superfamily members, activins, are disulfide-linked dimeric proteins that were originally isolated from gonadal fluids as proteins that stimulated pituitary FSH release. Depending on the subunit composition, inhibins/activins are involved in regulating a variety of functions including hypothalamic and pituitary hormone production, gonadal hormone synthesis, germ cell development and maturation, erythroid differentiation, insulin manufacture, nerve survival, embryonic axial growth or bone growth. Actins are heterodimers or homodimers of the various beta subunit versions, while inhibins are heterodimeric combinations of a distinct alpha subunit and one of the many beta subunits. Activin A/INHBA Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
