Interleukin-22 (IL-22) is a type of IL-10 family mediator that activates inflammatory responses in cells. IL-22 is produced by activated DC and T cells. IL-22 and IL-10 receptor chains play a role in cellular targeting and signal transduction. It can both begin and regulate basic immune responses against bacterial infections, especially in epithelial cells such as respiratory and gastrointestinal epithelial cells. The coordinated response of the adaptive and innate immune systems may be aided by interaction between IL-22, IL-17, and other cytokines. IL-22 also promotes hepatocyte survival in the liver and epithelial cells in the lung and gut similar to IL-10. IL-22 binds to a cell surface complex consisting of IL-22R1 and IL-10R2 receptor chains in order to elicit biological activity. IL-22 biological activity is further regulated by interactions with a soluble binding protein; IL-22BP. Both IL-22BP and the extracellular region of IL-22R1 share sequence homology. In certain situations, the anti-inflammatory versus tissue-protective activities of IL-22 are controlled by cytokine IL-17A. Human Interleukin-22/IL-22 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
