The Galectin family of proteins; with specificity for Nacetyllactosamine containing glycoproteins; consists of beta-galactoside binding lectins containing homologous carbohydrate recognition domains (CRDs). They also have hemagglutination activity, which is due to their bivalent carbohydrate binding capabilities. Galectins are active both intracellularly and extracellularly. Despite the fact that they are primarily found in the cytoplasm and lack a classical signal peptide, they can be secreted by one or more as yet unknown non-classical secretory pathways. Adhesion; migration; polarity; chemotaxis; proliferation; apoptosis; and differentiation are just a few of the many cellular functions that they influence. Galectins may be involved in a variety of pathological conditions, including autoimmune diseases, allergies, inflammation, tumor cell metastasis, atherosclerosis, and diabetic complications. Human Galectin-7/LGALS7 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
