Fatty acid-binding protein (Epidermal-type fatty acid-binding protein/Fatty acid-binding protein 5/Psoriasis-associated fatty acid-binding protein homolog/E-FABP and FABP5) is a cytoplasm protein which belongs to the calycin superfamily and Fatty-acid binding protein (FABP) family. The FABPs are believed to function as lipids shuttles that solubilize hydrophobic fatty acids and transport them to the appropriate cellular locations. FABP5 is strongly expressed in keratinocytes and is overproduced in the proliferating tissue seen in psoriasis and wound healing. FABP5 is a lipoprotein that binds fatty acids and regulates lipid metabolism and transport. The FABP5 enzyme is highly specific for fatty acids. It prefers C18-length chains. Decreasing the chain length or introducing double bonds reduces the affinity of FABP5. FABP5 may be involved in keratinocyte differentiation. Human FABP5 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
