Beta-defensin 1 (DEFB1) is a member of the beta-defensin family, which is widely expressed by epithelial cells. Beta-defensin are expressed as the C-terminal portion of precursors and are released by proteolytic cleavage of a signal peptide. The six-cysteine motif of Beta-defensin forms three internal disulfide bonds. Beta-defensin 1 is an antimicrobial peptide that has been shown to have an in the resistance of epithelial surfaces to microbial colonization. Defects in the beta-defensin 1 play a role in the diagnosis of asthma and has gender-specific effects in humans. Beta-defensins 1 has been implicated in severe sepsis. In addition, gingival keratinocytes' induction profiles are linked to beta-defensin 1. Human Beta-Defensin 1/DEFB1 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
