Cystatin C is a member of family 2 of the cystatin superfamily. It is found in the majority of human tissues and bodily fluids, and it serves as a biomarker for kidney function. Cystatin C inhibits several cysteine proteases, including papain and Cathepsins B; H; K; L, as well as S. Cystatin C inhibits cysteine proteinases, and it has been postulated that this proteinase regulator plays a significant physiological function as a local modulator of enzyme activity. It has been investigated for its potential value in predicting new-onset or worsening heart disease. It also seems to play a role in brain disorders involving amyloid (a specific type of protein deposition); such as Alzheimer's disease. Human Cystatin C/CST3 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
