The PRKAA2 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB7339) is a valuable tool for studying the PRKAA2 protein, a key regulator of cellular energy metabolism and autophagy. This antibody, generated in rabbits, exhibits high specificity and sensitivity for detecting PRKAA2 in human samples, making it suitable for use in Western blotting applications. By binding to PRKAA2, this antibody enables the accurate detection and analysis of the protein in a variety of cell types, offering researchers a reliable tool for investigations in the fields of metabolism, energy regulation, and autophagy.
PRKAA2, also known as AMP-activated protein kinase alpha 2 subunit, plays a crucial role in maintaining cellular energy homeostasis by sensing and responding to fluctuations in energy levels. Dysregulation of PRKAA2 has been implicated in various metabolic disorders, including diabetes, obesity, and cancer, highlighting its significance as a potential therapeutic target. Studying the function and regulation of PRKAA2 using this antibody may provide valuable insights into the development of novel treatments for metabolic diseases and cancer.

The protein encoded by this gene is a catalytic subunit of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). AMPK is a heterotrimer consisting of an alpha catalytic subunit, and non-catalytic beta and gamma subunits. AMPK is an important energy-sensing enzyme that monitors cellular energy status. In response to cellular metabolic stresses, AMPK is activated, and thus phosphorylates and inactivates acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and beta-hydroxy beta-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR), key enzymes involved in regulating de novo biosynthesis of fatty acid and cholesterol. Studies of the mouse counterpart suggest that this catalytic subunit may control whole-body insulin sensitivity and is necessary for maintaining myocardial energy homeostasis during ischemia.
