Prion Protein Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody (CAB8821)
The Prion Protein Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody (CAB8821) is specifically designed for research involving the prion protein, a key molecule implicated in prion diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. This antibody, derived from rabbit monoclonal sources, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and has been extensively validated for use in Western blot applications. The Prion Protein Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody binds specifically to the prion protein, enabling highly sensitive detection and analysis in a variety of cell types. This makes it an essential tool for researchers studying prion diseases and related neurodegenerative disorders.
The prion protein, also known as PrP, plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of prion diseases by misfolding and aggregating in the brain, leading to neurotoxicity and neuronal death. Understanding the mechanisms underlying prion protein biology is essential for developing therapeutic interventions to combat prion diseases and other protein misfolding disorders.Overall, the Prion Protein Rabbit Monoclonal Antibody (CAB8821) is a valuable tool for researchers investigating the role of the prion protein in neurodegenerative diseases and exploring potential therapeutic targets for these devastating conditions.

The protein encoded by this gene is a membrane glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored glycoprotein that tends to aggregate into rod-like structures. The encoded protein contains a highly unstable region of five tandem octapeptide repeats. This gene is found on chromosome 20, approximately 20 kbp upstream of a gene which encodes a biochemically and structurally similar protein to the one encoded by this gene. Mutations in the repeat region as well as elsewhere in this gene have been associated with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, fatal familial insomnia, Gerstmann-Straussler disease, Huntington disease-like 1, and kuru. An overlapping open reading frame has been found for this gene that encodes a smaller, structurally unrelated protein, AltPrp. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
