The SMAD1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB1101) is a valuable tool for researchers studying the SMAD1 protein, a key regulator in the TGF-beta signaling pathway. This antibody, produced in rabbits, has high reactivity with human samples and is validated for use in Western blot applications. By binding specifically to the SMAD1 protein, this antibody allows for accurate detection and analysis in a variety of cell types, making it ideal for investigations in the fields of cell biology, developmental biology, and cancer research.SMAD1 is a transcription factor that plays a crucial role in the transmission of TGF-beta signals from the cell surface to the nucleus, where it regulates the expression of target genes involved in cell growth, differentiation, and apoptosis.
Dysregulation of the TGF-beta signaling pathway, including abnormalities in SMAD1 function, has been implicated in a variety of diseases such as cancer, fibrosis, and developmental disorders. Understanding the role of SMAD1 in these processes is essential for developing targeted therapies that can modulate TGF-beta signaling for therapeutic benefit.

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the SMAD, a family of proteins similar to the gene products of the Drosophila gene 'mothers against decapentaplegic' (Mad) and the C. elegans gene Sma. SMAD proteins are signal transducers and transcriptional modulators that mediate multiple signaling pathways. This protein mediates the signals of the bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), which are involved in a range of biological activities including cell growth, apoptosis, morphogenesis, development and immune responses. In response to BMP ligands, this protein can be phosphorylated and activated by the BMP receptor kinase. The phosphorylated form of this protein forms a complex with SMAD4, which is important for its function in the transcription regulation. This protein is a target for SMAD-specific E3 ubiquitin ligases, such as SMURF1 and SMURF2, and undergoes ubiquitination and proteasome-mediated degradation. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed.
