Description
PAPPA Antibody (PACO32280)
The PAPPA Polyclonal Antibody (PAC03280) is a valuable tool for researchers studying PAPPA, a protein involved in various biological processes such as insulin-like growth factor (IGF) signaling and pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) activity. This antibody, produced in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications.PAPPA, a metalloproteinase enzyme, is known for its role in cleaving IGF-binding proteins and regulating the bioavailability of IGF. Dysregulation of PAPPA has been implicated in conditions like pre-eclampsia, cancer, and cardiovascular disease, making it a promising target for therapeutic interventions.
By targeting PAPPA, researchers can gain insights into its mechanisms of action and potential implications for disease progression. With its specificity for PAPPA, this polyclonal antibody enables accurate detection and analysis of PAPPA expression in various cell types, providing researchers with a versatile tool for investigating the functions and regulatory pathways associated with this important protein. Studies utilizing this antibody can contribute to advancements in the understanding of PAPPA biology and its relevance to human health.

Background: | Metalloproteinase which specifically cleaves IGFBP-4 and IGFBP-5, resulting in release of bound IGF. Cleavage of IGFBP-4 is dramatically enhanced by the presence of IGF, whereas cleavage of IGFBP-5 is slightly inhibited by the presence of IGF. |
Synonyms: | Pappalysin-1 (EC 3.4.24.79) (Insulin-like growth factor-dependent IGF-binding protein 4 protease) (IGF-dependent IGFBP-4 protease) (IGFBP-4ase) (Pregnancy-associated plasma protein A) (PAPP-A), PAPPA |
UniProt Protein Function: | PAPPA: Metalloproteinase which specifically cleaves IGFBP-4 and IGFBP-5, resulting in release of bound IGF. Cleavage of IGFBP-4 is dramatically enhanced by the presence of IGF, whereas cleavage of IGFBP-5 is slightly inhibited by the presence of IGF. Belongs to the peptidase M43B family. |

NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes a secreted metalloproteinase which cleaves insulin-like growth factor binding proteins (IGFBPs). Following IGFBP cleavage, insulin growth factors dissociate from IGFBPs and bind to IGF receptors, resulting in activation of the IGF pathway. The encoded protein plays a role in bone formation, inflammation, wound healing and female fertility. Enhanced expression of this protein is associated with diabetic nephropathy in human patients and this protein may promote tumor invasion and growth in various human cancers.
