Description
MOCS2 Antibody (PACO45564)
The MOCS2 Antibody (PAC045564) is a highly specific tool for researchers studying MOCS2, a protein involved in molybdenum cofactor biosynthesis. This polyclonal antibody, raised in rabbits, is validated for use in various applications including Western blot and immunofluorescence, allowing for accurate detection and analysis of MOCS2 in different cellular contexts.MOCS2 is an essential enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of molybdenum cofactor, a cofactor required for the activity of various enzymes crucial for normal cellular function.
Dysregulation of MOCS2 can lead to severe metabolic disorders and neurodegenerative diseases, making it a key target for research in biochemistry and neurobiology. By using the MOCS2 Antibody, researchers can investigate the role of MOCS2 in these diseases and explore potential therapeutic interventions targeting this pathway.

Background: | Acts as a sulfur carrier required for molybdopterin biosynthesis. Component of the molybdopterin synthase complex that catalyzes the conversion of precursor Z into molybdopterin by mediating the incorporation of 2 sulfur atoms into precursor Z to generate a dithiolene group. In the complex, serves as sulfur donor by being thiocarboxylated (-COSH) at its C-terminus by MOCS3. After interaction with MOCS2B, the sulfur is then transferred to precursor Z to form molybdopterin. |
Synonyms: | Molybdopterin synthase catalytic subunit (EC 2.8.1.12) (MOCO1-B) (Molybdenum cofactor synthesis protein 2 large subunit) (Molybdenum cofactor synthesis protein 2B) (MOCS2B) (Molybdopterin-synthase large subunit) (MPT synthase large subunit), MOCS2, MCBPE MOCO1 |
UniProt Protein Function: | MOCS2: Catalytic subunit of the molybdopterin synthase complex, a complex that catalyzes the conversion of precursor Z into molybdopterin. Acts by mediating the incorporation of 2 sulfur atoms from thiocarboxylated MOCS2A into precursor Z to generate a dithiolene group. Defects in MOCS2 are the cause of molybdenum cofactor deficiency type B (MOCOD type B). MOCOD type B is an autosomal recessive disease which leads to the pleiotropic loss of all molybdoenzyme activities and is characterized by severe neurological damage, neonatal seizures and early childhood death. Belongs to the MoaE family. MOCS2B subfamily. |

NCBI Summary: | Eukaryotic molybdoenzymes use a unique molybdenum cofactor (MoCo) consisting of a pterin, termed molybdopterin, and the catalytically active metal molybdenum. MoCo is synthesized from precursor Z by the heterodimeric enzyme molybdopterin synthase. The large and small subunits of molybdopterin synthase are both encoded from this gene by overlapping open reading frames. The proteins were initially thought to be encoded from a bicistronic transcript. They are now thought to be encoded from monocistronic transcripts. Alternatively spliced transcripts have been found for this locus that encode the large and small subunits. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
