The MGST1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB16399) is a valuable tool for researchers studying the role of MGST1, a key enzyme involved in the detoxification of electrophilic compounds and protection against oxidative stress. This antibody, produced in rabbits, has high specificity for human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By binding to the MGST1 protein, this antibody allows for precise detection and analysis in a variety of cell types, making it essential for studies in biochemistry and pharmacology.
MGST1, also known as microsomal glutathione S-transferase 1, is integral in maintaining cellular redox balance and protecting against damage caused by reactive oxygen species. Its involvement in detoxification processes makes it a crucial player in various disease states, including cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and cardiovascular diseases. Investigating the function of MGST1 is key to developing therapies aimed at modulating oxidative stress and improving overall cellular health.

The MAPEG (Membrane Associated Proteins in Eicosanoid and Glutathione metabolism) family consists of six human proteins, two of which are involved in the production of leukotrienes and prostaglandin E, important mediators of inflammation. Other family members, demonstrating glutathione S-transferase and peroxidase activities, are involved in cellular defense against toxic, carcinogenic, and pharmacologically active electrophilic compounds. This gene encodes a protein that catalyzes the conjugation of glutathione to electrophiles and the reduction of lipid hydroperoxides. This protein is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum and outer mitochondrial membrane where it is thought to protect these membranes from oxidative stress. Several transcript variants, some non-protein coding and some protein coding, have been found for this gene.
