The ME2 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB9650) is a valuable research tool for investigating ME2, a critical enzyme involved in the regulation of cellular metabolism. This antibody, generated in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and is validated for use in a variety of applications, including Western blotting. By binding specifically to the ME2 protein, this antibody enables accurate detection and analysis in a range of cell types, making it ideal for studies in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology.
ME2, also known as malic enzyme 2, plays a key role in metabolic processes by catalyzing the conversion of malate to pyruvate, a crucial step in energy production and biosynthesis. Dysregulation of ME2 activity has been linked to various diseases, including metabolic disorders and cancer, making it a promising target for therapeutic interventions. Understanding the functions and regulatory mechanisms of ME2 is essential for developing strategies to modulate metabolism and address related pathologies.

This gene encodes a mitochondrial NAD-dependent malic enzyme, a homotetrameric protein, that catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of malate to pyruvate. It had previously been weakly linked to a syndrome known as Friedreich ataxia that has since been shown to be the result of mutation in a completely different gene. Certain single-nucleotide polymorphism haplotypes of this gene have been shown to increase the risk for idiopathic generalized epilepsy. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms found for this gene.
