Description
MAFF Transcription Factor Activity Assay
The MAFF (Musculoaponeurotic Fibrosarcoma Oncogene Homolog F) Transcription Factor Activity Assay is a powerful tool for studying the transcriptional activity of the MAFF protein in various biological samples. This assay utilizes a highly specific and sensitive method to accurately measure MAFF's transcriptional activity in cell extracts, making it a valuable resource for researchers studying gene regulation and signal transduction pathways. MAFF is a key transcription factor that plays a critical role in a variety of cellular processes, including oxidative stress response, immune regulation, and cell differentiation. Dysregulation of MAFF activity has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and inflammatory conditions, highlighting the importance of studying its transcriptional activity.
This MAFF Transcription Factor Activity Assay provides researchers with a reliable and efficient way to assess MAFF's function in different biological contexts, allowing for the identification of potential therapeutic targets and the development of novel treatment strategies. With its high sensitivity and specificity, this assay is an essential tool for advancing our understanding of MAFF biology and its implications for human health.

UniProt Protein Function: | MAFF: Interacts with the upstream promoter region of the oxytocin receptor gene. May be a transcriptional enhancer in the up-regulation of the oxytocin receptor gene at parturition. Since it lacks a putative transactivation domain, it may behave as a transcriptional repressor when it dimerize among himself. May also serve as a transcriptional activator by dimerizing with other (usually larger) basic-zipper proteins and recruiting them to specific DNA-binding sites. May be involved in the cellular stress response. Belongs to the bZIP family. Maf subfamily. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Transcription factor; DNA-binding Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 22q13.1 Cellular Component: mitochondrion; nucleoplasm; nucleus Biological Process: blood coagulation; parturition; regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter |
NCBI Summary: | The protein encoded by this gene is a basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factor that lacks a transactivation domain. It is known to bind the US-2 DNA element in the promoter of the oxytocin receptor (OTR) gene and most likely heterodimerizes with other leucine zipper-containing proteins to enhance expression of the OTR gene during term pregnancy. The encoded protein can also form homodimers, and since it lacks a transactivation domain, the homodimer may act as a repressor of transcription. This gene may also be involved in the cellular stress response. Multiple transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2009] |
