The KRT81 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB3940) is a valuable tool for researchers studying keratin 81 (KRT81), a type II cytokeratin protein expressed in hair follicles, specifically in the inner root sheath. This antibody, produced in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and has been rigorously validated for use in applications such as Western blotting.KRT81 is involved in the structural integrity of hair follicles and plays a role in hair growth and maintenance. Aberrant expression or mutations in KRT81 have been linked to various hair disorders, making it a promising target for research in dermatology and trichology.
By specifically binding to KRT81, this antibody enables the detection and analysis of this protein in different cell types, providing essential insights into its function and potential implications in hair-related conditions.Furthermore, understanding the role of KRT81 in hair biology may have broader implications in cosmetic and regenerative medicine research, as well as in the development of therapeutic strategies for hair disorders. The KRT81 Polyclonal Antibody is an indispensable tool for investigators seeking to unravel the complexities of KRT81 and its impact on hair physiology.

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the keratin gene family. As a type II hair keratin, it is a basic protein which heterodimerizes with type I keratins to form hair and nails. The type II hair keratins are clustered in a region of chromosome 12q13 and are grouped into two distinct subfamilies based on structure similarity. One subfamily, consisting of KRTHB1, KRTHB3, and KRTHB6, is highly related. The other less-related subfamily includes KRTHB2, KRTHB4, and KRTHB5. All hair keratins are expressed in the hair follicle; this hair keratin, as well as KRTHB3 and KRTHB6, is found primarily in the hair cortex. Mutations in this gene and KRTHB6 have been observed in patients with a rare dominant hair disease, monilethrix.
