Description
KRT Antibody (PACO07332)
The KRT Antibody (PAC07332) is a highly specific polyclonal antibody designed for research involving keratin, a protein essential for maintaining the structural integrity of epithelial cells. This antibody, raised in rabbits, exhibits strong reactivity with human keratin samples and is validated for use in various immunohistochemistry applications.Keratins are a diverse group of proteins that play a crucial role in protecting epithelial cells from mechanical stress and damage. Aberrant expression or mutations in keratin genes have been linked to various skin disorders, including blistering diseases and skin cancers.
The KRT Antibody enables precise detection and analysis of keratin expression in different tissue samples, making it an invaluable tool for studies in dermatology, oncology, and regenerative medicine.Understanding the role of keratins in maintaining tissue integrity and their involvement in disease pathogenesis is essential for developing targeted therapies and diagnostic tools. The KRT Antibody provides researchers with a reliable tool to advance our knowledge of keratin biology and its implications in various medical conditions.

UniProt Protein Function: | K2: a type II cytoskeletal keratin. The keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into cytokeratins and hair keratins. There are two types of cytoskeletal and microfibrillar keratin: type I (acidic; 40-55 kDa) [K9 to K20] and type II (neutral to basic; 56-70 kDa) [K1 to K8]. Both a basic and an acidic keratin are required for filament assembly. Generally associates with K. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Cytoskeletal Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 12q13.13 Cellular Component: cornified envelope; cytosol; extracellular space; intermediate filament; membrane; nucleus Molecular Function:protein binding; structural constituent of cytoskeleton; structural constituent of epidermis Biological Process: epidermis development; keratinization; keratinocyte activation; keratinocyte migration; keratinocyte proliferation; peptide cross-linking Disease: Ichthyosis, Bullous Type |
NCBI Summary: | The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the keratin gene family. The type II cytokeratins consist of basic or neutral proteins which are arranged in pairs of heterotypic keratin chains coexpressed during differentiation of simple and stratified epithelial tissues. This type II cytokeratin is expressed largely in the upper spinous layer of epidermal keratinocytes and mutations in this gene have been associated with bullous congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma. The type II cytokeratins are clustered in a region of chromosome 12q12-q13. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
