The ERCC1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB18066) is a valuable tool for researchers studying the ERCC1 protein, which is involved in DNA repair mechanisms and resistance to chemotherapy in cancer cells. This rabbit-derived antibody is highly specific to human ERCC1 protein and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By binding to the ERCC1 protein, this antibody enables researchers to detect and analyze ERCC1 levels in various cell types, providing important insights for cancer research and personalized medicine.
ERCC1 is a crucial component of the nucleotide excision repair pathway, playing a key role in maintaining genomic stability and protecting cells from DNA damage. High levels of ERCC1 have been associated with resistance to platinum-based chemotherapies, making it a potential biomarker for predicting treatment outcomes in cancer patients. By studying ERCC1 expression and function, researchers can develop strategies to overcome drug resistance and improve the effectiveness of chemotherapy in cancer treatment.

The product of this gene functions in the nucleotide excision repair pathway, and is required for the repair of DNA lesions such as those induced by UV light or formed by electrophilic compounds including cisplatin. The encoded protein forms a heterodimer with the XPF endonuclease (also known as ERCC4), and the heterodimeric endonuclease catalyzes the 5' incision in the process of excising the DNA lesion. The heterodimeric endonuclease is also involved in recombinational DNA repair and in the repair of inter-strand crosslinks. Mutations in this gene result in cerebrooculofacioskeletal syndrome, and polymorphisms that alter expression of this gene may play a role in carcinogenesis. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. The last exon of this gene overlaps with the CD3e molecule, epsilon associated protein gene on the opposite strand.
