The COMT Polyclonal Antibody (CAB18085) is a valuable tool for researchers studying the catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) enzyme, which is involved in the breakdown of catecholamines such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. This rabbit polyclonal antibody is highly specific to human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications.COMT plays a crucial role in the regulation of neurotransmitters in the brain, making it a target of interest in studies related to neurological disorders, addiction, and mood disorders. By binding to the COMT enzyme, this antibody enables researchers to detect and analyze its expression in various cell types, providing valuable insights into its function and potential implications in disease states.
With its high reactivity and specificity, the COMT Polyclonal Antibody is an essential tool for researchers conducting research in the fields of neuroscience, pharmacology, and psychiatry. By understanding the role of COMT in neurotransmitter regulation, researchers can gain valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying various neurological and psychiatric conditions, paving the way for potential therapeutic interventions.

Catechol-O-methyltransferase catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine to catecholamines, including the neurotransmitters dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. This O-methylation results in one of the major degradative pathways of the catecholamine transmitters. In addition to its role in the metabolism of endogenous substances, COMT is important in the metabolism of catechol drugs used in the treatment of hypertension, asthma, and Parkinson disease. COMT is found in two forms in tissues, a soluble form (S-COMT) and a membrane-bound form (MB-COMT). The differences between S-COMT and MB-COMT reside within the N-termini. Several transcript variants are formed through the use of alternative translation initiation sites and promoters.
