The KD-Validated COMT Polyclonal Antibody is a powerful tool for researchers studying Catechol-O-Methyltransferase (COMT), an enzyme involved in the breakdown of neurotransmitters like dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. This antibody, produced in rabbits, is highly specific for human samples and has been rigorously validated for use in Western blotting applications.COMT plays a crucial role in regulating the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain, impacting various neurological and psychiatric disorders such as Parkinson's disease, schizophrenia, and mood disorders. By targeting COMT with this antibody, researchers can effectively detect and analyze protein expression levels in different cell types, providing valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying these complex diseases.
With its high reactivity and specificity, the KD-Validated COMT Polyclonal Antibody is a valuable tool for scientists conducting research in the fields of neuroscience, pharmacology, and drug development. By unraveling the role of COMT in neurotransmitter metabolism, this antibody contributes to the advancement of novel therapeutic strategies for neurological and psychiatric conditions.

Catechol-O-methyltransferase catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine to catecholamines, including the neurotransmitters dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. This O-methylation results in one of the major degradative pathways of the catecholamine transmitters. In addition to its role in the metabolism of endogenous substances, COMT is important in the metabolism of catechol drugs used in the treatment of hypertension, asthma, and Parkinson disease. COMT is found in two forms in tissues, a soluble form (S-COMT) and a membrane-bound form (MB-COMT). The differences between S-COMT and MB-COMT reside within the N-termini. Several transcript variants are formed through the use of alternative translation initiation sites and promoters.
