Mediator Complex Subunit 21 (MED21) belongs to the mediator complex subunit 21 family. MED21 interacts with the human RNA polymerase II holoenzyme and is participated in transcriptional regulation of RNA polymerase II transcribed genes. A pseudogene of MED21 can be found on chromosome 8. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
MED21 Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 167 amino acids (1-144 a.a.) and having a molecular mass of 18.0kDa.MED21 is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | MED21: Component of the Mediator complex, a coactivator involved in the regulated transcription of nearly all RNA polymerase II-dependent genes. Mediator functions as a bridge to convey information from gene-specific regulatory proteins to the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. Mediator is recruited to promoters by direct interactions with regulatory proteins and serves as a scaffold for the assembly of a functional preinitiation complex with RNA polymerase II and the general transcription factors. Belongs to the Mediator complex subunit 21 family. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Nuclear receptor co-regulator; Transcription, coactivator/corepressor Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 12p11.23 Cellular Component: Srb-mediator complex Molecular Function:DNA-directed RNA polymerase activity; protein binding; transcription coactivator activity Biological Process: positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter |
NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes a member of the mediator complex subunit 21 family. The encoded protein interacts with the human RNA polymerase II holoenzyme and is involved in transcriptional regulation of RNA polymerase II transcribed genes. A pseudogene of this gene is located on chromosome 8. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2012] |
