LSM5also known as LSM5 Homolog, U6 Small Nuclear RNA Associated belongs to the Smprotein family. This family is identified in a variety of organismsbased on sequence homology. Sm-like proteins contain the Sm sequence motif, which consists of 2 regions separated by a linker of variable length whichfolds as a loop. In addition, the Sm-like proteins are thought to create astable heteromer present in tri-snRNPparticles, which are important for pre-mRNA splicing. Among the diseasesassociated with LSM5 are spinal muscular atrophy, and muscular atrophy.
LSM5 Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 114 amino acids (1-91 a.a) and having a molecular mass of 12.3kDa.LSM5 is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | LSM5: Plays a role in U6 snRNP assembly and function. Binds to the 3' end of U6 snRNA, thereby facilitating U4/U6 duplex formation in vitro. Belongs to the snRNP Sm proteins family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.Protein type: RNA-binding; RNA processingChromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 7p14.3Cellular Component: cytosol; nucleoplasm; nucleus; spliceosome; U4/U6 x U5 tri-snRNP complexMolecular Function: protein binding; RNA bindingBiological Process: mRNA processing; nuclear mRNA splicing, via spliceosome |

NCBI Summary: | Sm-like proteins were identified in a variety of organisms based on sequence homology with the Sm protein family (see SNRPD2; MIM 601061). Sm-like proteins contain the Sm sequence motif, which consists of 2 regions separated by a linker of variable length that folds as a loop. The Sm-like proteins are thought to form a stable heteromer present in tri-snRNP particles, which are important for pre-mRNA splicing.[supplied by OMIM, Apr 2004] |
