Gem-Associated Protein 6 (GEMIN6) is a member of a large macromolecular complex, localized to both the cytoplasm and the nucleus, which takes part in the cytoplasmic assembly of small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs). SMN, GEMIN2, GEMIN3, GEMIN4, and GEMIN5 are additional members of this complex.
GEMIN6 Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 190 amino acids (1-167a.a) and having a molecular mass of 21.9kDa. GEMIN6 is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | GEMIN6: The SMN complex plays an essential role in spliceosomal snRNP assembly in the cytoplasm and is required for pre-mRNA splicing in the nucleus. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:RNA splicing Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2p22.1 Cellular Component: cytoplasm; cytosol; nuclear body; nucleoplasm; SMN complex Molecular Function:protein binding Biological Process: nuclear import; nuclear mRNA splicing, via spliceosome; spliceosomal snRNP biogenesis |
NCBI Summary: | GEMIN6 is part of a large macromolecular complex, localized to both the cytoplasm and the nucleus, that plays a role in the cytoplasmic assembly of small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs). Other members of this complex include SMN (MIM 600354), GEMIN2 (SIP1; MIM 602595), GEMIN3 (DDX20; MIM 606168), GEMIN4 (MIM 606969), and GEMIN5 (MIM 607005).[supplied by OMIM, Jul 2002] |
