Phenylalanyl-tRNA synthetase 2 mitochondrial (FARS2) is a member of the class II aminoacyl- tRNA synthetase family. FARS2 is a mitochondrial matrix protein. FARS2 when acting as a monomer, catalyzes the ATP-dependent conversion of L-phenylalanine and tRNA (Phe) to L-phenlalanyltRNA (Phe), an event which is vital for proper translation and protein expression.
FARS2 produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 436 amino acids (37-451 a.a.) and having a molecular mass of 50.6kDa.FARS2 is fused to a 21 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | FARS2: Catalyzes direct attachment of p-Tyr (Tyr) to tRNAPhe. Permits also, with a lower efficiency, the attachment of m-Tyr to tRNAPhe, thereby opening the way for delivery of the misacylated tRNA to the ribosome and incorporation of ROS-damaged amino acid into proteins. Belongs to the class-II aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase family. |
