Description
HMGCR Polyclonal Antibody (CAB21451)
The HMGCR Polyclonal Antibody (AB10001) is a valuable tool for researchers studying the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme, which plays a key role in cholesterol biosynthesis. This antibody, produced in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and is validated for use in various applications, including Western blot and immunohistochemistry.HMGCR is a target for statin drugs used to lower cholesterol levels, making it a critical enzyme in lipid metabolism. Dysregulation of HMGCR activity has been linked to cardiovascular disease and other metabolic disorders, making it a promising target for therapeutic interventions.
By utilizing the HMGCR Polyclonal Antibody, researchers can study the expression and function of HMGCR in different cell types and tissues, providing valuable insights into cholesterol metabolism and potential drug targets for related diseases. This antibody is an essential tool for studies in lipid biology, cardiovascular research, and drug development.

HMG-CoA reductase is the rate-limiting enzyme for cholesterol synthesis and is regulated via a negative feedback mechanism mediated by sterols and non-sterol metabolites derived from mevalonate, the product of the reaction catalyzed by reductase. Normally in mammalian cells this enzyme is suppressed by cholesterol derived from the internalization and degradation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) via the LDL receptor. Competitive inhibitors of the reductase induce the expression of LDL receptors in the liver, which in turn increases the catabolism of plasma LDL and lowers the plasma concentration of cholesterol, an important determinant of atherosclerosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
