The HMGCR Polyclonal Antibody (CAB16875) is a valuable tool for researchers studying HMGCR, a key enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis. As a critical regulator of cholesterol levels, HMGCR is a target for various cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders. This antibody, produced in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications.By specifically binding to the HMGCR protein, this antibody enables researchers to detect and analyze the enzyme in different cell types.
Its utility in immunology and cancer research makes it an essential reagent for studying the role of HMGCR in various diseases and developing potential therapeutic strategies. Understanding the function of HMGCR is crucial for advancing our knowledge of cholesterol metabolism and its implications for human health.

HMG-CoA reductase is the rate-limiting enzyme for cholesterol synthesis and is regulated via a negative feedback mechanism mediated by sterols and non-sterol metabolites derived from mevalonate, the product of the reaction catalyzed by reductase. Normally in mammalian cells this enzyme is suppressed by cholesterol derived from the internalization and degradation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) via the LDL receptor. Competitive inhibitors of the reductase induce the expression of LDL receptors in the liver, which in turn increases the catabolism of plasma LDL and lowers the plasma concentration of cholesterol, an important determinant of atherosclerosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
