The HMGCR Polyclonal Antibody (CAB14741) is a valuable tool for researchers studying HMGCR, an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of cholesterol. This antibody, raised in rabbits, is highly specific for human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By binding to the HMGCR protein, this antibody enables the detection and analysis of HMGCR in various cell types, making it ideal for research in lipid metabolism, cardiovascular disease, and drug development.HMGCR, also known as 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase, is a key enzyme in the mevalonate pathway, which is essential for the synthesis of cholesterol and other isoprenoids.
Dysregulation of HMGCR activity has been linked to hypercholesterolemia, atherosclerosis, and other metabolic disorders. By studying the role of HMGCR in these conditions, researchers can gain insights into potential therapeutic targets for managing lipid disorders and cardiovascular disease.Overall, the HMGCR Polyclonal Antibody provides a valuable tool for investigating the function and regulation of HMGCR in various physiological and pathological contexts. Its high specificity and reliability make it a valuable asset for researchers seeking to advance our understanding of cholesterol metabolism and related diseases.

HMG-CoA reductase is the rate-limiting enzyme for cholesterol synthesis and is regulated via a negative feedback mechanism mediated by sterols and non-sterol metabolites derived from mevalonate, the product of the reaction catalyzed by reductase. Normally in mammalian cells this enzyme is suppressed by cholesterol derived from the internalization and degradation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) via the LDL receptor. Competitive inhibitors of the reductase induce the expression of LDL receptors in the liver, which in turn increases the catabolism of plasma LDL and lowers the plasma concentration of cholesterol, an important determinant of atherosclerosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
