The HMGCR Polyclonal Antibody (CAB13314) is a valuable tool for researchers studying HMGCR, an essential enzyme involved in cholesterol biosynthesis. This antibody is produced in rabbits and is highly specific to human samples, making it ideal for Western blot applications. By binding to the HMGCR protein, researchers can accurately detect and analyze its expression in various cell types.HMGCR, known as 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl CoA reductase, is a key enzyme in the mevalonate pathway responsible for synthesizing cholesterol. Dysregulation of HMGCR has been linked to diseases such as hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerosis, making it a target for therapeutic interventions.
Studying the role of HMGCR in cholesterol metabolism can provide insights into these diseases and aid in the development of treatments.Overall, the HMGCR Polyclonal Antibody (CAB13314) offers researchers a reliable tool for investigating the functions and implications of HMGCR in various biological processes, including lipid metabolism and cardiovascular health. Its specificity and sensitivity make it an essential component in studies related to cholesterol synthesis and related diseases.

HMG-CoA reductase is the rate-limiting enzyme for cholesterol synthesis and is regulated via a negative feedback mechanism mediated by sterols and non-sterol metabolites derived from mevalonate, the product of the reaction catalyzed by reductase. Normally in mammalian cells this enzyme is suppressed by cholesterol derived from the internalization and degradation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) via the LDL receptor. Competitive inhibitors of the reductase induce the expression of LDL receptors in the liver, which in turn increases the catabolism of plasma LDL and lowers the plasma concentration of cholesterol, an important determinant of atherosclerosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
