The HBB Polyclonal Antibody (CAB1331) is a valuable tool for researchers studying the HBB gene, which encodes the beta subunit of hemoglobin, a critical component of red blood cells. This antibody, produced in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By binding to the HBB protein, this antibody enables precise detection and analysis in various cell types, making it ideal for studies in hematology and blood disorders. The HBB gene plays a crucial role in oxygen transport throughout the body, making it essential for maintaining proper physiological function.
Mutations in the HBB gene can lead to hemoglobinopathies such as sickle cell disease and beta thalassemia, underscoring the importance of research into this gene and its protein product. By understanding the function and regulation of HBB, researchers can gain insights into blood disorders and potentially develop targeted therapies to treat these conditions.

A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence within amino acids 47-147 of human HBB (NP_000509.1).
The alpha (HBA) and beta (HBB) loci determine the structure of the 2 types of polypeptide chains in adult hemoglobin, Hb A. The normal adult hemoglobin tetramer consists of two alpha chains and two beta chains. Mutant beta globin causes sickle cell anemia. Absence of beta chain causes beta-zero-thalassemia. Reduced amounts of detectable beta globin causes beta-plus-thalassemia. The order of the genes in the beta-globin cluster is 5'-epsilon -- gamma-G -- gamma-A -- delta -- beta--3'.
