The GRIK2 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB1939) is a valuable tool for researchers studying the GRIK2 protein, a subunit of ionotropic glutamate receptors that play a crucial role in excitatory neurotransmission in the brain. This antibody, generated in rabbits, is highly specific to human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By binding to the GRIK2 protein, this antibody enables the detection and analysis of GRIK2 expression in various cell types, making it an excellent choice for studies in neuroscience and neurological disorders.
GRIK2 is essential for mediating fast synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity in the central nervous system, making it a key player in learning and memory processes. Dysregulation of GRIK2 has been implicated in various neurological conditions, including epilepsy, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer's disease. By investigating the function and expression of GRIK2, researchers can gain insights into the mechanisms underlying these disorders and potentially identify novel therapeutic targets for intervention.

Glutamate receptors are the predominant excitatory neurotransmitter receptors in the mammalian brain and are activated in a variety of normal neurophysiologic processes. This gene product belongs to the kainate family of glutamate receptors, which are composed of four subunits and function as ligand-activated ion channels. The subunit encoded by this gene is subject to RNA editing at multiple sites within the first and second transmembrane domains, which is thought to alter the structure and function of the receptor complex. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have also been described for this gene. Mutations in this gene have been associated with autosomal recessive cognitive disability.
