The Glucagon Polyclonal Antibody (CAB1119) is a valuable tool for researchers studying glucagon, a peptide hormone involved in regulating glucose metabolism. The antibody, generated in rabbits, is particularly reactive with human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By binding specifically to the glucagon protein, this antibody allows for precise detection and analysis in a variety of cell types, making it well-suited for investigations in endocrinology and metabolic disorders.
Glucagon plays a crucial role in promoting the breakdown of glycogen in the liver, leading to an increase in blood sugar levels. Dysregulation of glucagon signaling is implicated in conditions such as diabetes, making it an important target for research into metabolic diseases. By studying the function of glucagon using this antibody, researchers can gain insights that may contribute to the development of novel therapies for diabetes and other related disorders.

Recombinant fusion protein containing a sequence corresponding to amino acids 21-180 of human Pro-glucagon (NP_002045.1).
The protein encoded by this gene is actually a preproprotein that is cleaved into four distinct mature peptides. One of these, glucagon, is a pancreatic hormone that counteracts the glucose-lowering action of insulin by stimulating glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis. Glucagon is a ligand for a specific G-protein linked receptor whose signalling pathway controls cell proliferation. Two of the other peptides are secreted from gut endocrine cells and promote nutrient absorption through distinct mechanisms. Finally, the fourth peptide is similar to glicentin, an active enteroglucagon.
