The GenieFluor Violet 450 Anti-Mouse CD8a Antibody (53-6.7) is a potent tool for researchers studying immune responses and T cell biology in mice. This monoclonal antibody, derived from hybridoma cells, specifically targets CD8a, a cell surface marker found on cytotoxic T cells involved in immune surveillance and response. With high reactivity and specificity for mouse samples, this antibody is a critical component for flow cytometry and immunofluorescence experiments, allowing for precise identification and analysis of CD8a-positive T cells. Its compatibility with various cell types and tissues makes it an invaluable resource for investigating immune cell populations and their roles in immunity, infection, and autoimmunity.
CD8a is a key player in adaptive immune responses, acting as a co-receptor for T cell receptor recognition and activation. Its expression on cytotoxic T cells allows for targeted killing of infected or abnormal cells, making it crucial for immune defense against pathogens and cancer. By targeting CD8a with this antibody, researchers can deepen their understanding of T cell-mediated immune responses and potentially uncover new therapeutic targets for immunomodulation and immunotherapy research.

Background:
CD8, also known as Lyt-2, Ly-2, or T8, consists of disulfide-linked α and β chains that form the α(CD8a)/β(CD8b) heterodimer and α/α homodimer. CD8a is a 34 kD protein that belongs to the immunoglobulin family. The CD8 α/β heterodimer is expressed on the surface of most thymocytes and a subset of mature TCR α/β T cells. CD8 expression on mature T cells is non-overlapping with CD4. The CD8 α/α homodimer is expressed on a subset of γ/δ TCR-bearing T cells, NK cells, intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes, and lymphoid dendritic cells. CD8 is an antigen co-receptor on T cells that interacts with MHC class I on antigen-presenting cells or epithelial cells. CD8 promotes T cell activation through its association with the TCR complex and protein tyrosine kinase lck.
