The GCG Polyclonal Antibody (CAB14609) is a valuable tool for researchers studying GCG, a key hormone involved in regulating glucose metabolism and insulin secretion. This antibody, produced in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and has been validated for use in Western blot applications. By targeting the GCG protein, this antibody enables precise detection and analysis in various cell types, making it an essential asset for studies in diabetes research and endocrinology.GCG, also known as glucagon, plays a crucial role in maintaining glucose homeostasis by promoting the release of glucose from the liver during periods of fasting or low blood sugar.
Dysregulation of GCG function is associated with metabolic disorders such as diabetes, making it a promising target for therapeutic interventions aimed at improving glucose control. A deeper understanding of GCG's role in metabolic pathways is essential for developing effective treatments for diabetes and related conditions.

The protein encoded by this gene is actually a preproprotein that is cleaved into four distinct mature peptides. One of these, glucagon, is a pancreatic hormone that counteracts the glucose-lowering action of insulin by stimulating glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis. Glucagon is a ligand for a specific G-protein linked receptor whose signalling pathway controls cell proliferation. Two of the other peptides are secreted from gut endocrine cells and promote nutrient absorption through distinct mechanisms. Finally, the fourth peptide is similar to glicentin, an active enteroglucagon.
