The FGG Polyclonal Antibody (CAB5642) is a valuable tool for researchers studying the FGG protein, a crucial component of the blood coagulation cascade. This antibody, generated in rabbits, exhibits high reactivity with human samples and is validated for use in Western blot applications. By specifically binding to the FGG protein, researchers can easily detect and analyze FGG expression in various cell types, making it ideal for studies in hemostasis, thrombosis, and cardiovascular diseases.
The FGG protein, also known as fibrinogen gamma chain, plays a vital role in blood clotting and wound healing by forming fibrin clots. Dysregulation of FGG expression has been implicated in various coagulation disorders, making it a potential therapeutic target for conditions like hemophilia and thrombosis. Understanding the function of FGG is essential for developing targeted treatments that can modulate blood clot formation and prevent associated complications.

The protein encoded by this gene is the gamma component of fibrinogen, a blood-borne glycoprotein comprised of three pairs of nonidentical polypeptide chains. Following vascular injury, fibrinogen is cleaved by thrombin to form fibrin which is the most abundant component of blood clots. In addition, various cleavage products of fibrinogen and fibrin regulate cell adhesion and spreading, display vasoconstrictor and chemotactic activities, and are mitogens for several cell types. Mutations in this gene lead to several disorders, including dysfibrinogenemia, hypofibrinogenemia and thrombophilia. Alternative splicing results in transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
