The EIF4G Polyclonal Antibody (CAB6086) is a valuable tool for researchers studying EIF4G, an essential protein involved in the initiation of protein synthesis. This antibody, generated in rabbits, exhibits high specificity for human samples and is validated for use in Western blot applications. By targeting the EIF4G protein, this antibody enables accurate detection and analysis of EIF4G expression in various cell types, making it ideal for investigations in the fields of molecular biology and cancer research.
EIF4G is a key component of the eukaryotic translation initiation complex, facilitating the recruitment of ribosomes to mRNA transcripts and the initiation of protein synthesis. Dysregulation of EIF4G has been linked to various diseases, including cancer and neurological disorders, making it a promising target for therapeutic interventions. By studying EIF4G expression and function, researchers can gain insights into the mechanisms underlying these diseases and potentially identify novel treatment strategies.

The protein encoded by this gene is a component of the multi-subunit protein complex EIF4F. This complex facilitates the recruitment of mRNA to the ribosome, which is a rate-limiting step during the initiation phase of protein synthesis. The recognition of the mRNA cap and the ATP-dependent unwinding of 5'-terminal secondary structure is catalyzed by factors in this complex. The subunit encoded by this gene is a large scaffolding protein that contains binding sites for other members of the EIF4F complex. A domain at its N-terminus can also interact with the poly(A)-binding protein, which may mediate the circularization of mRNA during translation. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants, some of which are derived from alternative promoter usage.
