The DUT Polyclonal Antibody (CAB2901) is a valuable tool for researchers studying DUT, also known as deoxyuridine 5'-triphosphate nucleotidohydrolase. DUT is an essential enzyme involved in DNA metabolism, specifically in the prevention of uracil incorporation into DNA. This antibody is produced in rabbits and is highly specific to human samples, making it ideal for Western blot applications. By binding to the DUT protein, researchers are able to detect and analyze its expression in various cell types, providing insights into its role in DNA repair and maintenance.
DUT dysfunction has been linked to a variety of diseases, including cancer and neurological disorders, making it a promising target for drug development and therapeutic interventions. By studying the activity of DUT using this antibody, researchers can gain a better understanding of its function and potential implications for human health.

This gene encodes an essential enzyme of nucleotide metabolism. The encoded protein forms a ubiquitous, homotetrameric enzyme that hydrolyzes dUTP to dUMP and pyrophosphate. This reaction serves two cellular purposes: providing a precursor (dUMP) for the synthesis of thymine nucleotides needed for DNA replication, and limiting intracellular pools of dUTP. Elevated levels of dUTP lead to increased incorporation of uracil into DNA, which induces extensive excision repair mediated by uracil glycosylase. This repair process, resulting in the removal and reincorporation of dUTP, is self-defeating and leads to DNA fragmentation and cell death. Alternative splicing of this gene leads to different isoforms that localize to either the mitochondrion or nucleus. A related pseudogene is located on chromosome 19.
