The Desmoglein-1 Polyclonal Antibody (CAB9812) is a vital tool for research involving Desmoglein-1, a cell adhesion molecule essential for maintaining the integrity of epithelial tissues. This antibody, produced in rabbits, displays high specificity for human samples and is validated for use in various immunostaining applications. By targeting the Desmoglein-1 protein, this antibody allows for precise detection and analysis in different cell types, making it a valuable asset for studies in dermatology, oncology, and autoimmune diseases.
Desmoglein-1 plays a crucial role in mediating cell-cell adhesion in the epidermis, contributing to the structural strength and barrier function of the skin. Mutations or dysregulation of Desmoglein-1 have been linked to skin disorders such as pemphigus and other autoimmune blistering diseases. Research into the function and regulation of Desmoglein-1 is key to understanding the pathogenesis of these conditions and developing targeted therapies to alleviate symptoms and improve patient outcomes.

This gene encodes a member of the desmoglein protein subfamily. Desmogleins, along with desmocollins, are cadherin-like transmembrane glycoproteins that are major components of the desmosome. Desmosomes are cell-cell junctions that help resist shearing forces and are found in high concentrations in cells subject to mechanical stress. This gene is found in a cluster with other desmoglein family members on chromosome 18. The encoded protein has been identified as a target of auto-antibodies in the autoimmune skin blistering disease pemphigus foliaceus. Disruption of this gene has also been associated with the skin diseases palmoplantar keratoderma and erythroderma.
